One of the modern art galleries at Alserkal Avenue is Carbon 12, which was established in 2008. Carbon 12 introduces and promotes both established and emerging artists to the UAE contemporary art scene. It usually has 6 to 8 annual exhibitions and complements this with diverse activities including publications and talks.
At the moment Carbon 12 presents “The Riff”, the 4th solo exhibition of the artist Anahita Razmi. It takes place in Warehouse 37 in Alserkal Avenue and will end on the 5th of January, 2023.
Anahita Razmi art works range from analogue films and photography to 3D animation and sound. Razmi combines images, signs, patterns and riffs of fading empires and post-nationalisms. Her art is an equivocal attempt to imagine or create a new unfamiliar type of internationalism.

Alserkal Avenue is an arts and culture district in Dubai with art galleries, platforms for theatre performances, facilities for workshops, shops and cafeterias. The area is a compound of warehouses in the industrial zone of Al Quoz with Alserkal Avenue as the main promenade. Galleries and facilities house residencies for local and global artists. It’s a vibrant community of contemporary art galleries, performing organisations, design offices and artisanal spaces.
Most of the galleries specialise in modern and contemporary art, presenting both local and international artists. Some of the main Alserkal Avenue art galleries are: Carbon 12, Leila Heller Gallery, Gray Noise, Firetty Contemporary, Le Guepard, Zawyeh Gallery, Green Art Gallery, Custot Gallery, Dubai, 1×1 Art Gallery and Alserkal Arts Foundation.
Alserkal Arts Foundation offers artists and other cultural practitioners opportunities for research, scholarship, and artistic production. Four core initiatives- public art commissions, residencies, research grants, and educational programmes- lie at the base of the Foundation. All art activities and research are supported by Alserkal, an Emirati family business spearheaded by Abdelmonem Bin Eisa Alserkal.
One can read more about different art galleries and practices at Alserkal Avenue on its official website.
