About Lateefa bint Maktoum
Lateefa bint Maktoum is an Emirati art collector, curator, photographer, and artist, who received her Bachelor’s Degree in Visual Arts from Zayed University Latifa College in 2007. She has been displaying her art pieces since 2004 and curating exhibitions since 2007. The first show curated by her was Minus Reality at the Art Attack gallery featuring 30 UAE-based artists. This exhibition inspired her to found Tashkeel, a studio for artists and designers residing in the Gulf.
At the core of Lateefa Bint Maktoum’s art are personal experiences and her observations of her changing home country. Her works, which combine photography and montage, depart from the real, yet they depict imagined landscapes that explore transformations in culture and the constantly changing connections between life, nature, and women.
She has participated in multiple shows which include Ways of Seeing (NYU Abu Dhabi, Abu Dhabi, 2018); Jardins d’ Orient (Institut du Monde Arabe, Paris, France, 2016); 1971: Contemporary Art from the UAE (Farjam Foundation, Dubai, 2015); Art Dubai (2012 and 2011); Bastakiyah Art Fair (2012 and 2010, Dubai); Better City Better Life (2010, UAE Pavilion, Expo Shanghai, China); Across the Gulf (Brisbane Arc Biennial, Australia, 2009); No Such Place 2 (Roger Smith Hotel, NYC, USA, 2008); Perceptions (Third Line, Dubai, 2006); and many others. The artist’s work can be found in different private collections across the Emirates as well as in other countries.
Lateefa bint Maktoum is a recipient of several awards, which include the CEO Outstanding Contribution to the Arts Award by ITP (2012), the Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Patrons of the Arts awards (2011 and 2010), and the 1st Prize in the Ibdaa Media Student Awards in the Digital Photography category (2006).
