Sikka Art and Design Festival will take place from the 24th of February until the 5th of March in Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood, transforming the space into an open art gallery. Festival will provide a platform that supports emerging creatives and allow them to embark on their journey to become professional artists. Festival is being held annually in March under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairperson of Dubai Culture and Art Authority.
This year, the 11th edition of the festival has a title “Celebrating Art, Celebrating Growth” and it will be under its new umbrella, the Sikka Art and Design Platform. A new visual identity of The Festival was inspired by a sidr tree at the Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood. The symbol reflects the growing vibrance of Dubai’s artistic scene and strengthening the emirate’s position as global centre for arts and culture.
Sikka is an initiative that focuses on supporting and presenting works of Emirati artists, who are residents of UAE and neighbours from GCC. It’s an ideal platform for them to present their works in front of a diverse set of audience. Sikka Art and Design Festival will include a variety of exhibitions and artistic creations, fine art, musical and cinematic performances. It also aims to stimulate dialogue and creative thinking. Workshops, poetry councils and dialogue sessions will be the integral part of the vibrant 10-days festival’s programme. This year Design & New Media house that features interactive installations and spaces will be an important and interesting addition.
Authentic aromatic Emirati flavours and other international cuisines alongside home-grown food pop ups will be the part of the celebration of art and culture.
One can find more information about the Festival on its official website or on its Google Art and Culture web page.
