Art Dubai – Leading International Art Fair of the Middle East

Art Dubai, one of the major events on the international arts scene, will be taking place in Dubai on 1-5 March. This year 2023 it will be the 16th edition of the show. It is the main platform for art from the Middle East, North Africa and South Asia.

Art Dubai is the world’s most globally diverse art fair- over 90 galleries from more than 40 different countries participate in the show every year. Art Dubai is held under the patronage of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE.

For instance, in 2019 the show attracted over 30,000 visitors – curators, patrons, regional and international collectors as well as over 100 visiting museums and institutions. Alongside over 90 exhibiting galleries Art Dubai has an extensive programme, which includes curators’ projects, residencies, education initiatives and the Global Art Forum.

Art Dubai’s gallery spaces include four main sections: Contemporary, Modern, Bawwaba and Residents. Contemporary section features commercial galleries, which are operating on the primary market and which have been established for at least two years. Art Dubai Contemporary’s Selection Committee selects over 60 galleries ranging from established galleries to smaller art spaces including galleries from under-represented art capitals. Exhibiting artists range from emerging art practitioners to well-known masters. Wide range of art works are on display at the show every year- painting, drawing, sculpture, installation, theatre performance, video and photography.

Art Dubai Modern presents modern art from the Middle East, Africa and South Asia. Each gallery presents art by modern masters of the 20th century, most of the art works produced between the 1940s and 1980s.

Residents is a four-week residency programme for the multidisciplinary gallery artists from all over the world. Artists are invited to the UAE to create new works, in fully equipped studio spaces Their creations are thought to be inspired by their experiences in the UAE.

Bawwaba is a unique gallery section, which aims to give visitors an art landscape of the Global South. It is a gateway to current artistic developments from the regions of the Middle East, Africa, Central and South Asia as well as Latin America.
