SAF summer art school is starting. Week 1 includes various workshops for Children and Families. The events will take place from Sunday the 4th of July, 2022, to Thursday the 7th of July, 2022. The events will start at 10:00 am and last until 1:00 pm. The workshops will be held at Collections Building, Arts Square. The events are free and open to the public. The languages spoken are English and Arabic. All materials needed will be provided by Sharjah Art Foundation.
Basics of sketching will be held on the 3d of July. Participants will use graphite pencils to sketch, outline and shade, experimenting with drawing objects seen in their surroundings.
Pen and ink techniques will be explained on the 5th of July. An ink drawing will be created using lines, dots and circles.
Colourful still life will take place on the 7th of July. Participants will go on an excursion to Al Noor Island to see the butterflies house, surrounding trees and the architecture of the place. Afterwards, they will draw still life and create outlines of butterflies, plants or any object seen in the surrounding, using colour layering and burnishing techniques.
Movement sketch will be held on the 3d of July. While sketching, participants will be moving, walking and running. This interesting approach to sketching will result in unexpected, funny artworks.
Charcoal studio will take place on the 5th of July. Basics of charcoal drawing will be explained. Participants will learn about charcoal as a medium for drawing, about balance and composition. At the end of the workshop, they will pick an object as their subject to create a still life charcoal drawing.
Pen and ink techniques will be explained on the 7th of July. A technique called ‘no-brush painting’ will be used. Participants will express themselves with acrylic paint and a canvas while using daily objects as their drawing tool instead of a brush.
