Until the 30th of September 2023, the Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) Library in Doha, Qatar, is hosting The Mosque: Place & Time. This exhibition allows one to see various images depicting famous mosques from around the world: Palestine, Syria, India, Spain, and many other countries. It may be considered kind of a sequel to the exhibition titled Mosques in Qatar: Then and Now that was held by MIA this summer. Through a series of photographs on view, it illustrated how mosque architecture in the country evolved over the last 100 years.
Focusing on mosques from different countries, the current exhibition sheds light on the particular architectural styles and cultural influences that these iconic structures are shaped by. Apart from the rare books, it also displays a collection of items loaned from the Qatar Philatelic & Numismatic Center, such as coins, stamps, and banknotes with depictions of mosques on them. Besides, the exhibits include postcards featuring images of famous mosques from around the globe.
