Rarares Gallery in DIFC presents Elysian Awakening of Powerful Spring, a collective exhibition curated by Sara Serpilli and Marina Baisel, on view until 31 August 2025. It brings together a group of female artists whose practices span generations, geographies, and mediums, united by a shared vision of empowerment, transformation, and artistic renewal.
Inspired by the symbolism of spring as a time of rebirth and awakening, the exhibition reframes traditional narratives by positioning women not as passive muses, but as creators and storytellers. Through a collection of various artworks, such as paintings, sculptures, ceramic works, installations, and mixed media pieces, Elysian Awakening explores themes of identity, resilience, heritage, and the force of feminine creativity.
Among the featured creatives is acclaimed Emirati artist Fatma Lootah, known for her emotionally charged abstract works that blend light, texture, and cultural memory. Her work Beauty of Power (2024) exemplifies her commitment to cross-cultural dialogue and expressive energy. Italian-born artist Barbara Duran contributes Sortilegio, a series of glimmering wooden panels infused with gold and metallic pigments that delve into alchemy and mysticism. The series offers a contemplative experience rooted in matter and transformation.
Emirati artist and designer Sara Alkhayyal displays works that reinterpret traditional patterns and materials through a modern graphic lens, which reflect her exploration of local heritage and visual language. Egyptian artist Zeina Abdullah introduces delicate ceramic works that probe the fragility of memory and the quiet strength of healing, demonstrating the poetic power of clay as medium and metaphor. Meanwhile, Asma Alarmed channels quiet strength and emotional introspection through minimal forms and organic materials.
Russian-born artist and fashion designer Natalie Katwal showcases her tactile stone and ceramic works, including Rupor Pú, which speaks to sacred form and the emotional resonance of material. Fellow Russian artist Tatiana Chursina blends figuration and abstraction to create poetic visual narratives speaking to personal experience as well as universal emotion.
All in all, Elysian Awakening not only showcases powerful individual voices but also emphasises collective energy and solidarity. The exhibition takes visitors on a reflective journey through contemporary womanhood and artistic agency.
