Art of Building Photography Competition 2022

Art of Building photography competition is an international showcase for the very best digital photography of the built environment. The competition was organised by the Chartered Institute of Building in the UK. One of the 2022 Art of Building competition finalists is the photo of the UAE pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai.

In November 2022 the judges had shortlisted 12 images from more than 1,500 global entries. One of the shortlisted photos named “White constellation” was taken by Francesca Pompei. It shows the geometric ceiling of the UAE pavilion at the Dubai Expo.

This is Francesca’s own description of the idea behind her image: “Designed by the Swiss-Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava for the UAE pavilion at the Dubai Expo, is representative of the UAE’s pioneering spirit. At the centre of the structure there is a sphere-shaped void that serves as an auditorium with a capacity of 200. It’s continuum form is a symbol of resilience and of a boundless future embracing a dialogue among different cultures.”

The competition, which was free to enter, opened in October and was closed on the 27th of November. The judges decided to give the public the chance to vote and decide on the winner. “We are putting the power in your hands – vote for your favourite photo from our Art of Building competition. Thank you to the 1000s of photographers from all over the world who entered and shared their creativity with us.”

The vote is open until January 15 and the winner will be announced on January 26. A second winner will be selected by the judges. Both first and second winners will receive £1,500 ($1,823). Winning images will be promoted across the globe and will be part of a pop-up-style photo and art galleries in public places.

One has a chance to see the previous winners of that international competition on the gallery page of the Art of Building website.

The last year 2021 public’s choice winner was Sk Rahaman Hossain with the photo “Life through history”, showing spectacular Humayun’s Tomb in Delhi. The photo “The Skyscraper” by Mikhail Proskalov was the Judges’ choice winner. The photo showed the Lakhta centre in Saint-Petersburg and was taken with the help of drone technology.

The public can vote on the entry by Francesca Pompei by visiting the official website of the Art of Building.
