Arcadian Dreams is a solo exhibition by acclaimed artist Timur D’Vatz that gives one an exciting opportunity to admire his enigmatic works. Rich with profound meaning, they transport viewers to a magical world while encouraging an inward journey to discover their spiritual origins. On view at the Andakulova Gallery, which represents Central Asian Art in the Middle East, the show will run through the 10th of September, 2024.
D’Vatz’s paintings combine legends and diverse symbols with a modernist form and vibrant colours: sunlit golds, amber reds, and bright blues. Taking cues from traditional Byzantine and Russian art, ancient histories, and mediaeval tapestries, the artist examines core motifs and ideas that have gained meaning and evolved in significance through different historical periods. Another source of his inspiration is the intricate patterns of the Nabis School, a group of avant-garde artists active in late 19th-century Paris. Referencing literature, religion, and astrology in his art, D’Vatz crafts a modern mythology that connects with the iconic traditions of mediaeval painting.

A recurring theme in the artist’s work is the hunt, which plays an important role in spiritual transformation: the hunt can be a quest, a journey, or a personal search for identity. By revitalising ancient stories and legends of hunting, D’Vatz aims to impart new significance to both historical and imagined rituals.
