Sharjah Art Foundation is organising three workshops for children and adults. The events will take place on Saturday the 21st of May, 2022. The workshops are free of charge and open to the public. The languages spoken are English and Arabic. All materials needed will be provided by Sharjah Art Foundation.
The Patterns on Textiles workshop will be held from 10:00 pm to 12:00 pm at Collections Building, Arts Square. The workshop is intended for children (6-10 years old) and families.
The textiles and patterns seen in the photographs of Ghanaian photographer Gerald Annan-Forson (the exhibition of this artist’s works is now held at Al Hamriyah Studios until the 7th of July, 2022) will serve as an inspiration for the participants. A trip to the nearby tailoring shops will allow visitors to collect fabric scraps, after which there will be a discussion about their findings. Then, the aim will be to work in groups and come up with new patterns which will be printed on plain textiles.
The next workshop is Cross-stitching Motifs which will also be held from 10:00 pm to 12:00 pm at Collections Building, Arts Square. The workshop is intended for children (11-15 years old) and families.
Inspired by the visit to Khalil Rabah’s exhibition, What is Not, the participants of the workshop will find out about basic falahi stitches which is the Palestinian cross-stitching technique. There will be several embroidery exercises in order to get to know the language of symbols and motifs that have been used to record stories of generations of Palestinian people for already thousands of years.
The Poetry & Prose Book Club Meet Up is intended for youth and adults. It will start at 5 pm and last until 7 pm. The location is the Flying Saucer, Dasman.
It will be the first SAF Book Club meeting where numerous poems, including The Prophet by Gibran Khalil Gibran and The Raven by Edgar Allan Poe will be discussed.
The guests are advised to bring their favourite poetry book to make it a part of the discussion.
