The art scene of Dubai is a dynamic blend of culture and modernity, with an ever-expanding collection of public artworks enriching the cityscape. Among those contributing to the local art space is Dr Jassim Al Awadhi, a renowned Emirati artist and photographer. In 2023, Al Awadhi made a significant mark as part of the Dubai Public Art initiative, a government-led project promoting public art by local talent. His contribution, the Wave of Imagination sculpture, is a testament to his creative vision.
Situated on Dubai Open Beach in Jumeirah 2, Wave of Imagination draws inspiration from the harmonious interaction between water and land. The sculpture’s sweeping curves mimic the Arabian Gulf’s waves, symbolising the profound connection between the sea and the desert, an essential aspect of Emirati heritage. The sculpture’s bright yellow hue represents the sun, embodying the strength, energy, and richness of Dubai’s natural environment. Crafted from recycled materials, the art piece reflects the city’s commitment to sustainability and environmental consciousness.
