Famous Jordanian-Romanian footwear designer Amina Muaddi presents her pop-up store in Dubai, collaborating with Ounass, a local clothing retail company. The store, which resembles a space capsule, is located on Kite Beach in the Umm Suqeim district, promising a chance to experience the intersection of fashion and beachfront luxury. It will be open until the 27th of December, 2023.
Speaking about the store, Muaddi said that she wanted to create “a space that feels like an oasis from an outer world”. The structure has been designed by established architect Harry Nuriev’s Crosby Studios, the same studio which worked on Muaddi’s boutique in London (UK). The store in Dubai is an oblong pavilion with semicircular ends made from shiny metal; floor-to-ceiling glass sides allow one to catch a glimpse of the interior from afar. Inside the store, a metal grid core sits next to a large display (which is metal as well) displaying Muaddi’s stylish shoes and bags. Four styles are presented: Alexa, Vittoria, Camelia, and Fiona, all exclusively crafted in special colours for this pop-up store.
About Harry Nuriev and Crosby Studios
Harry Nuriev (b. 1984) is a Russian-born artist, architect, and interior furniture designer who divides his time between New York (USA) and Paris (France). His practice involves immersive environments, virtual installations, public spaces, and object design. Nuriev describes his minimalistic style influenced by Russian craft and architecture as transformism (a movement he has developed that prioritises transformation and transformative experiences around him). The sources of his inspiration include daily objects which people consider uninteresting. Nuriev seeks to create unconventional statements about today’s society based on relevant yet conventional items and moments. “I’m just sabotaging the […] rules of interior design,” he says. “I’m disrupting them with things that aren’t supposed to be there.”
Nuriev founded Crosby Studios, an interior, architecture, and furniture design firm, in 2014. First launched in Moscow, a second branch was opened in New York in 2017. Crosby Studios’ encompasses graphic design, office environments, boutique restaurants, public spaces, and private residences.
Nuriev has given lectures and done educational programs about design at such institutions as Harvard, Pratt, and the Royal College of Art (London), to name a few. He has collaborated with renowned global brands and artists which include Balenciaga, Nike, Dover Street Market, OMA, Liam Gillick, Valentino, and others. ☆∘☆∘☆
