Fann À Porter Dubai is currently holding Void and Form, a solo show by renowned Jordanian artist Bader Mahasneh. One has an opportunity to admire his acrylic paintings and photographic artworks characterised by melancholic dark colour palettes, as well as his sculptures. The last day of the exhibition is 30 August 2023.

Mahasneh’s art draws from philosophies (he is particularly influenced by German philosopher Martin Heidegger) and complex human condition. He examines the interaction between humanity and machinery (the “void”) and the relationship between destruction and creation (“building of form”). Translating the intricate 3D densities of painting into sculptures, the artist believes that painting offers an illusion, while in sculpture, the object exists.

With years of research into Jordan’s geology under his belt, Mahasneh employs historically significant materials, such as igneous rock and Carrara marble, to create his sculptures. In his opinion, natural materials’ impurities also add to their uniqueness. His stone sculptures from the Chaos series carved from the substance which birthed the Earth and Heavens convey a sense of beauty and tranquillity.

Bader Mahasneh, Untitled from Chaos series, 2013. Carrara marble. 39 x 28.5 x 14 cm.

The exhibition also showcases the artist’s photographs. The models depicted in the pictures are merged with their surroundings. Using special camera techniques and lighting, Mahasneh achieves this effect in a single shot and in a single layer.
