In partnership with Musée National des Châteaux de Versailles et de Trianon, and in collaboration with France Muséums, Louvre Abu Dhabi has presented Versailles & the World. This exhibition allows you to immerse yourself in 17th-18th century Versailles and discover this unique place.

Showing more than 100 artworks, including paintings and decorative arts, the exhibition illustrates how Versailles became an important centre for diplomatic ties between the East and West. It also investigates the impact these relations had on European art and culture, and how international diplomacy inspired a competitive pursuit of excellence in science and astronomy in France, leading to discoveries that changed the contemporary understanding of the world.

Visitors will see more than 100 artworks from the collections of Louvre Abu Dhabi, the UK’s Royal Collection Trust, and 16 French lenders including the Musée National des Châteaux de Versailles et de Trianon. They will also be able to enjoy a parallel public programme of wide-ranging cultural activities.

Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak said: “I am delighted to see Abu Dhabi’s dynamic cultural calendar for the year take off to a strong start with the opening of this fascinating exhibition, which provides unique insights into the royal court at Versailles and its powerful impact on the world over the centuries. Louvre Abu Dhabi and its esteemed partner museums have developed a strong reputation for producing insightful and thought-provoking exhibitions that highlight the importance of cultural interactions, which tie well into Abu Dhabi’s wider mission of harnessing tolerance and cross-cultural understanding.”

Louvre Abu Dhabi’s first international exhibition of the year opened on January 26 and will run until June 4, 2022.
