The award-winning musical Little Shop of Horrors can now be seen at the Red Theatre of the Arts Centre, a multi-venue complex designed by the acclaimed Rafael Viñoly Architects. The musical with live music is brought by Abu Dhabi’s longest standing community musical theatre group, the Abu Dhabi Choral Group (ADCG).
The performance will take place on Thursday and Friday, June 23d and 24th, 2022, at 7:30 pm and on Saturday, June 25th, 2022, at 2:30 and 7:30 pm.
The Little Shop of Horrors musical, which blends doo-wop, rock, and Motown, is based on the Little Shop Of Horrors film of the same name, which starred the then-unknown Jack Nicholson, book and lyrics by Howard Ashman, with music by Alan Menken. The world premiere of the play took place on May 6, 1982, and for more than 35 years it has been on the stage all over America.
The Little Shop of Horrors is a dark musical comedy. This story is about timid nerd Seymour and his unexpected acquisition, which dramatically changed his whole life. An amazing flower brought Seymour fame, wealth and even love. But who knew how this cute plant would be bloodthirsty.
After two years of streaming virtual concerts, ADCG returns to the theatre with this performance. The group is the longest running amateur music group in the UAE. ADCG was established in 1977. It has been performing musical revues and fully-staged musicals already for 45 seasons. Over 75 shows have been staged by ADCG, representing various nationalities and languages.
The Red Theatre is the Arts Centre’s largest venue. It is a 700-seat theatre with world-class acoustics. It features an almost 50 square meter stage with a sprung wood floor, state of the art lighting, digital and 35mm projection capabilities, an orchestra pit, and adjustable acoustic panels. The theatre is suitable for music, dance, theatre or film.
