Nature has always been a profound source of inspiration, shaping artistic expression across cultures. Persian carpets, for instance, translate the elegance of gardens and blossoms into intricate designs, deeply embedding these motifs within Iranian craftsmanship. Darehbaghi reinterprets classical Persian elements, such as Persian lacquer painting and the Gol-o-Morgh (flower and bird) motif, through a contemporary lens, blending historical influences with modern artistic techniques.

The exhibition examines how our understanding of the past changes, blossoming into new forms. Darehbaghi’s artworks balance the enduring essence of classical art with the dynamic energy of contemporary creativity, fostering a dialogue between heritage and modern expression.

About the artist

Morteza Darehbaghi (b. 1969, Tehran, Iran) obtained a Diploma from the Plastic Arts School (Tehran) in 1991 and earned a BA Honours in Art from Azad University (Tehran) in 1995.

Darehbaghi’s early works were figurative, featuring influences from Iranian painting. Over time, he transitioned toward a more abstract approach, though his later works remain deeply rooted in traditional Iranian art. His abstract compositions often incorporate plant forms and patterns, drawing inspiration from Persian artistic heritage, particularly works from the Safavid and Qajar periods. Through his paintings, the artist delves into the connection between man and the natural world and his deeply rooted sense of, and bond with, Iranian traditional culture.
