The Theater of Digital Art (ToDA) in Dubai invites everyone to dive into the fashion world. It is currently holding The Art of Fashion, a 360° immersive pop-up exhibition by celebrated artist and fashion illustrator Alena Lavdovskaya. One can have a look at her exquisite art pieces (digital sketches and drawings created with ink and pencil) until the 31st of August, 2023.
With 20 years of work experience in fashion, advertising, and editorial magazines under her belt, Lavdovskaya aims to show viewers that fashion is not about only apparel or seasonal trends. Depicting live models and high-fashion looks, in her glamorous works she re-creates the atmosphere of a real photoshoot and illustrations of the 20th century. The artist especially likes drawing fashion show reportage illustrations: she tries to capture bright moments happening during the show or backstage on paper. Deeply inspired by the human figure, particularly the body language, Lavdovskaya also draws Olympic athletes and ballet dancers.
About the artist
Alena Lavdovskaya (born in Tbilisi, Georgia) is a renowned Russian fashion illustrator residing in Dubai. In 2005, she obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design from Moscow State Textile University named after A.N. Kosygin. In 2000, she studied at the Academy of Art University (San Francisco, CA, USA). She also studied in NABA (Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti) (Milan, Italy) in 2004.
Apart from having worked as Gucci VM director at Mercury and a deputy creative director and fashion illustrator at TSUM Department Store, Lavdovskaya has worked with numerous famous brands and fashion magazines such as Guerlain, Bulgari, Dior, Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Prada, Estee Lauder, Lancome, Tiffany, Gemfields; Vogue Russia, Harper’s Bazaar, Elle, and many others. She has also been an artist in residence at Four Seasons DIFC, Rixos, Mondrian, Palazzo Parigi Milano, London Hotel Langham, and many other venues. In 2016, Lavdovskaya founded Fashion Illustration Studio, her own illustration and art content agency for the fashion industry. Besides, she is an author of Fashion Illustration workshops held in Moscow, Dubai, Florence, London, and Lisbon in collaboration with Dior, Guerlain, Gucci, and Alberta Ferretti.
Lavdovskaya has displayed her artworks in a number of exhibitions: Fashion illustration (a solo show) (Opus Tower ME by Melia Dubai, UAE, 2023); Art+Sport (Omelchenko Gallery, Russia, 2023); International Artlife festival and the Fashion Illustration group exhibition (Russia, 2022); and others. Among her projects are a series of illustrations for Origen Festival Kulturel Switzerland; an art project for Tales at the Tretyakov Gallery (Tretyakov Gallery Museum, Moscow, Russia); a series of works in collaboration with ballet dancers from such Russian theatres as Stanislavsky, Mariinsky and Bolshoi; and an art laboratory within the AR exhibition Wives (the Museum of Russian Impressionism, Moscow).
