The Abu Dhabi History Museum & Aquarium (it’s also referred as the Maritime Museum) can be found at Khalifa Park, which is located North of the runway of Al-Bateen airport, not far from the Grand Mosque. Given the way the museum and aquarium are staged, the complex provides welcome, enduring entertainment for kids and families.

The museum is divided into two sections: the Time tunnel and the Aquarium.

The tour starts with an introduction video. The first section features some kind of museum “safari”: a 20 minutes long cart-like ride. A cart carries passengers through the Tunnel, while they’re being introduced to the historic background of Abu Dhabi. Dioramas with animatronic wax figures are used to depict key moments in the city’s history. Visitors see with their own eyes how the city has developed: they learn about traditional desert life, pearl-diving and the discovery of Abu Dhabi’s natural resources. The ride is accompanied with an audio tour guide; it is played through each cart individually.

After the ride, visitors are welcome to go upstairs to admire marine fauna. There is a series of small aquariums; each of them is a home for numerous fishes. Among the other inhabitants, there is a big sea turtle.

Khalifa Park named after his highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan is one of the oldest parks in Abu Dhabi. It is a great place to have fun with your family. Apart from visiting the Maritime Museum, one can stop by an adult and children’s Cultural Library. A special train which runs around is a great way to get from one side of the park to the other. Within Khalifa Park, there is also an entrance to Murjan Splash Park. Although it is not that big, this water park is perfect for young children.
