The Green Planet located at City Walk, Dubai, is a unique botanical museum, which is inhabited by a plethora of exotic species of plants, animals and birds. The whole Planet — a futuristic looking bio-dome made of glass — occupies an area of 6000 sqft. The Green Planet recreates the world of a tropical forest. At the museum’s center there’s a gigantic tree, creating a perfect environment for the wildlife with an indoor waterfall connected to it.
The Planet consists of four levels. Each of them represents a part of a forest. The top level Canopy is at 30-40 meters from the ground. Here, numerous species of exotic birds and butterflies fly free. On the next level, the Midstory, one learns about the middle layer of the rainforest and its large leaves. On the Forest Floor, there are varieties of animals that thrive in the humid environment: reptiles, insects, and amphibians in glass enclosures. The Flooded Rainforest is a home for a lot of nocturnal animals and aquatic creatures (fishes, tortoises, etc).
The Planet’s main goal is to educate visitors about the crucial role of tropical forests in the future of the Earth. Many expert biologists working at the museum are always glad to tell visitors about the way of life of different living organisms.
Apart from giving one a chance to explore the rainforest, the museum offers a number of other things to do. At the Piranha Experience, a visitor witnesses over thousands of piranha gobble up their prey and learns more about these scavengers from the experts. One can even go on a snorkeling session with the fish. The Sloth Encounter lets guests interact with the animals and take pictures of them. In the Bat Cave, visitors can see how Seba fruit bats live in their natural habitat. Sugar Glider Encounter gives one an opportunity to interact with these nocturnal animals and click pictures with them. At the Australian Walkabout, visitors get to know numerous kinds of reptiles native to Australia.
