Abu Dhabi has a new feather in its cap in the form of a new gallery of digital art by teamLab, an internationally renowned Japanese art collective. Located in the Saadiyat Cultural District, near the Louvre Abu Dhabi, teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi is a 17,000-square-metre venue that provides a mind-blowing immersive art experience. Designed in collaboration with teamLab Architects and MZ Architects, the pioneering project redefines how art, technology, and nature coexist.
Opened to the public in April 2025, teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi offers a constantly evolving world of mesmerising artworks that are not pre-recorded or fixed. Instead, they emerge and change depending on the interactions of natural phenomena, such as light, air, and water, and the presence of visitors. These dynamic environments ensure that no two experiences are the same, making each visit a unique, multisensory journey.
The installations at teamLab Phenomena are divided into wet and dry zones. In the wet areas, visitors are encouraged to explore barefoot, walking through reflective pools where light-responsive sculptures ripple and glow with touch. In the dry zones, massive projection-based environments come to life. Powered by over 700 high-lumen projectors, they form one of the world’s largest and most complex digital art spaces. The result is an ever-changing visual spectacle that feels organic and futuristic.
Among the standout installations are Levitation, a void-like form that floats and responds to human presence, and Massless Suns and Dark Suns, where glowing orbs respond to proximity and movement. In the Water Garden, egg-shaped ovoids rest in shallow pools; they glow and emit sounds that resonate through nearby orbs when touched. Other art pieces include immersive sculptural spaces made of light and vapour, kinetic forms that explore patterns of spontaneous order, and bubble-like shapes that hover, pulse, and disperse in air.
teamLab Phenomena is more than a place to observe art: it is a space to engage with it physically, emotionally, and intellectually. By dissolving the boundary between the artwork and the viewer, it invites us to see ourselves as integral parts of the world we inhabit and to discover new ways of perceiving that world through wonder, play, and participation.
