MetalMorphosis, an exhibition by an award-winning artist and sculptor, Joel Douek,  is now held at Jumeirah Creekside Hotel.  It is a solo exhibition featuring the artist’s mixed-media sculpture and paintings. Joel Douek creates his art using raw metals and reclaimed and recovered wood pieces. He works with different oxidation techniques in order to show the exquisite natural colours and textures these materials reveal. In addition,  a number of his works feature some gold in the form of gold leaf.

“I’ve been an artist of one form or another all my life. I am drawn to weathered wood and metal, exploring their contrast with gold and other metal leaf”, – says Joel Douek

According to the artist, his artworks in MetalMorphosis focus on capturing both the changing and enduring aspects of life throughout its progress due to the effects of time.

“Where one person might see an imperfection, a fault, another sees beauty. Yet for nature, beauty is not in the eye of the beholder,” says the artist, “It is a mysterious and pervasive quality that expresses its own internal striving for survival and betterment, whether observed by humans or not. A piece of bark, a fractal pattern in the rusting of iron.”

Joel Douek is an artist and sculptor originally from London and currently living in Los Angeles. He has participated in solo and group shows as well as in private events and commissions.

At Jumeirah Creekside Hotel, visitors have an immersive artistic experience since it showcases 482 artworks by 51 artists. The contemporary art pieces, which  include paintings, sculptures, video montages as well as mixed media, adorn the spaces throughout the hotel.
