Until 9 November 2024, the Aisha Alabbar Gallery is hosting -continuum, an exhibition by Armin Najib, who explores the ongoing evolution of human existence. This collection traces our journey from the fluidity of circles to the rigidity of squares, symbolizing the transformations we undergo throughout life. It reflects the pursuit of perfection and salvation while celebrating the inherent beauty of imperfection.

Humanity, once content with life on a round earth, now seeks meaning within self-made cubes—an evolutionary path where we cocoon ourselves in layers of history. The artworks capture the impacts of life’s ups and downs, the bends and tears, highlighting moments of healing and regeneration. Slivers of life, like sparkling crystals, adorn our imperfections, celebrating the beauty found within them.

“This selection serves as the DNA of my work,” said Armin Najib about the Me, I and Existence collection. “Like a script for directing a movie, these pieces form a visual narrative of humanity’s shift from life once content on round earth to a present where meaning is sought within self-made cubes. This evolutionary journey is captured and celebrated in each piece, showcasing how we cocoon ourselves in layers of history.’’

This collection is an invitation to engage deeply with the human experience, to lean in, learn, and ultimately lead through understanding. It presents the human journey as a series of ongoing projects—creations, connections, and collaborations that continuously evolve. In this space, we are reminded that we are living installations, constantly in progress, displayed and developed over time.

Najib’s childhood experiences sailing with his father, a Merchant Marine Captain, instilled in him a curiosity for exploration. He views the art world as a dynamic arena where he can pose questions, seek answers, or leave them open-ended. In his own words, Najib describes his creative process as a form of improvisation rather than anticipation, emphasizing the role of making in developing ideas.
