Contemporary galleries in Dubai as a part of Alserkal Art Week present interesting and thought-provoking exhibitions.
YETU Gallery from Congo together with the Alserkal Avenue foundation presents the exhibition “Breaking The Mould”. Eleven emerging artists from the Democratic Republic of Congo, most of whom are former students of the Academy of Fine Arts in Kinshasa, take part in this exhibition. Over fifteen artworks and series comprising painting, photography and mixed media were selected by curator Christine Eyene. This is the first exhibition of the artists in the UAE, showing new ideas emerging from the heart of Africa and new forms of visual exploration. African art and sculptural traditions had a huge influence on the development of Western and global modernism in the 20th century.
Venue: Jossa by Alserkal

From the 14th of November, FNDesigns (in Warehouse 26) shows the exhibition “Vivid Dreams” by Ella. This is a collection of paintings that the artist has done over the past decade. Some people dream in black and white. Ella dreams in colours: she can remember those vivid colours of her dreams. Sometimes she tries to translate them into paintings. “Most of them were born out of the dreams I’ve had, some are of the people that inspired and continue to inspire me, and some are from my love of music”, Ella says.
