Mestaria Gallery in Dubai is holding the Interwoven exhibition that presents eye-catching paintings by Bahraini artist Areej Rajab. The show explores the complex relationship between humanity and nature, unveiling the beauty of patterns found in the natural realm and human behaviour. The exhibition will be open to the public until 10 November 2024.
Rajab’s intricate compositions feature vibrant, layered colours and dynamic organic forms, capturing the intertwined nature of human emotions and experiences with natural elements. According to Rajab, she takes cues from nature, which she considers the purest source of colour. The artist focuses on the blending and overlapping of hues rather than individual colours. Various cultures can interpret colours differently, and this adds depth and nuance to Rajab’s works.
The art pieces on view, with their flowing layers, brushstrokes, and deliberate lines, convey a sense of movement and freedom, offering insight into the artist’s creative process. Each painting represents Rajab’s journey, from abstract impressionism to figurative art, creating a body of work that resists categorization and invites personal reflection.
About the artist
Areej Rajab, who was born and grew up in Bahrain, initially studied Business and General Management at the University of Bahrain but later pursued her passion for art at the London College of Art. Currently, she works as an artist and art teacher.
Rajab believes in the psychological power of colours and brushstrokes. Her work embodies a hopeful and optimistic view of the world, employing a bold palette chosen to evoke joy and positivity; each hue is selected to inspire specific emotions. By leaving her pieces untitled, the artist encourages viewers to create their interpretations and emotional connections.
Rajab has showcased her work in multiple exhibitions across the UK and the Middle East, including her home country of Bahrain, where she has shown at venues like the Ministry of Culture, the Gulf Hotel, and the National Museum; Oman, Qatar, the UAE (Dubai and Abu Dhabi), and Saudi Arabia.
