Until 10 January 2025, Volery Gallery is holding Inner Guide, a fascinating solo exhibition by artist Rita Maikova, whose enigmatic works merge surrealism with her personal symbolism. Visitors are welcome to explore dreamlike landscapes that highlight the balance between light and shadow, the visible and the hidden. The exhibited collection delves into the cyclical nature of life and the interconnectedness of all beings, drawing from Maikova’s experiences and inner reflections to create pieces inspiring contemplation and healing.
The artist’s recent paintings portray surreal worlds full of characters, such as dragons and fluid creatures with no faces, born from her imagination and life. Harmoniously entwined with nature, these figures embody resilience, transformation, and guidance. Whether human, animal, or mythical, each creature is seamlessly integrated into the surreal landscapes, imbuing the scenes with ethereal energy.

Motherhood profoundly influences Maikova’s work, serving as a wellspring of strength, stability, and intuition. In Inner Guide, she examines the force that arises from her experiences as a mother: a guiding light that connects her to her child and the broader world. This recurring motif in her art symbolises wisdom, healing, and resilience, forming the foundation for her exploration of balance and hope amidst life’s complexities.
The art pieces in the exhibited series pay tribute to the beauty of transformation, transitions between states of being, and the interplay between personal narratives and universal cycles. By weaving elements of classical mythology with her life experiences, Maikova creates a mystical tapestry of symbols and meanings. Her works invite us to connect with our inner light and find grounding amid life’s changes.
