Tashkeel has organised Homepage, a solo show by digital artist Mouza Al Hamrani, marking the culmination of her participation in the Tashkeel Critical Practice Programme (CPP). The exhibition reflects on the transformative impact of the internet, exploring themes like cultural preservation, nostalgia, and the exhaustion of online existence. The show is being held at FN Designs and will be open to the public until 15 October 2024.
Inspired by Al Hamrani’s Khaleeji upbringing, Homepage presents her latest body of work in which she reimagines the early Khaleeji cyberspace. Transforming digital remnants into physical forms, Al Hamrani examines the influence of this cyberspace as it entered modern culture and highlights the dual nature of the digital age. While celebrating the opportunities the internet has provided, she also draws our attention to the challenges of living in a hyper-connected world.

About the artist
Mouza Al Hamrani (b. 1995) is an Emirati illustrator and multimedia artist who divides her time between Sharjah and Ajman. She holds a B.Sc. in Multimedia Design from Zayed University, Dubai.
Al Hamrani’s work reflects her experiences growing up in the Gulf, exploring themes of cultural inheritances, existentialism, superstition, and the human condition. Her works are often humorous and stylised, combining kinetic and graphical elements with playful captions. Blending a childlike curiosity with her adult experiences, the artist creates pieces that are both visually lively and laced with sarcasm and depth. Having begun her career as an illustrator, Al Hamrani has recently expanded into digital art and installation.
The artist’s works were showcased in a number of exhibition and art events, which include the 10th edition of Sikka Art and Design Festival (Dubai, 2022); Community and Critique: Salama bint Hamdan Emerging Artist Fellowship (SEAF) 2019/20 Cohort 7 Show; Breaking Khaleeji Cultural Myths (Kuwait City, Kuwait, 2019); and Arab Animation (Manarat Al Saadiyat, Abu Dhabi).

About the CPP
The Tashkeel Critical Practice Programme is a year-long initiative tailored for contemporary artists residing and working in the UAE. It provides ongoing studio support, critical feedback, and production resources, culminating in an exhibition, publication, or other physical or digital outcome. Each participant’s journey through the programme is customised to align with their artistic practice and/or research interests. Throughout the process, artists collaborate with mentors, who may be artists, curators, critics, or art professionals, whose expertise complements the participants’ areas of focus.
