About the participants

Fernando Botero (1932–2023) was a Colombian artist and sculptor. Although his oeuvre incorporates still-lifes and landscapes, he focused on situational portraiture. Botero is famous for his style known as Boterismo characterised by depicting objects and figures in large exaggerated volumes; it can represent political criticism or humour. The themes which the artist examined in his works are everyday life in Colombia, art historical references, and abuses of power.

Richard Höglund (b. 1982, New York, USA), an American artist, explores drawing and painting to produce distinctive artworks that examine the significance of these traditional media. Using language and mark making as a starting point, Höglund turns linear form into abstract compositions by employing various unconventional materials (microscopic shells, marble dust, lead, tin, copper, etc.). The art pieces reflect tone, timbre, time, mood, depth, colour, prescience, and history.

Marc Quinn (b. 1964, London, UK) is a British visual artist whose practice includes sculpting, creating installations, and painting. Exploring “what it is to be human in the world today”, he delves into such themes as the body, genetics, identity, environment, and the media. In his work, the artist uses a full range of materials: from bread and flowers to concrete and bronze.

Pablo Reinoso (b. 1955, Buenos Aires, Argentina) is a multidisciplinary Argentine–French artist and designer based in Paris, France. His practice features sculpture, installation, design, architecture, and painting. Reinoso combines surrealistic concepts with furniture design and creates immersive structures using wood, stone, and metal.

Bernar Venet (b. 1941, France) is a French conceptual artist whose work includes painting, drawing, sculpture, installation, photography, stage design, and musical composition. Interested in the use of mathematics and scientific language in art, Venet is best known for his curved metal sculptures and his material exploration of coal, asphalt, and tar.

Fabienne Verdier (b. 1962, Paris, France) is a contemporary artist living and working in France. In her work, she employs techniques and traditions of both Western and Eastern art: she combines elements of Western Modernism and traditional Chinese calligraphy. Through dashes, circular shapes, and curved lines, Verdier’s canvases depict the energy flows that cross the universe and our brain and mould the landscapes around us.
