Volery Gallery in Dubai is hosting Between Days, a solo exhibition by painter An Hoang that marks her first showcase in the Middle East. The show displaying her latest expressive and dreamlike works will be open to the public until the 12th of July, 2024.

In the exhibited art pieces, Hoang delves into the delicate balance between abstraction and figuration. Her vibrant paintings capture moments of immersion in nature, inspired by the fleeting transitions of light and the changing seasons. Employing intuitive layering of paint, Hoang creates atmospheric surfaces juxtaposed with drawn marks that result in billowing, cloud-like forms. These abstractions evoke a sense of shifting winds and imagined skyscapes, expressing the abstract elements of weather, time, and space.

The title of the show, Between Days, refers to the liminal spaces that Hoang focuses on in her practice. She takes cues from moments of transition, for example, the shift from dawn to dusk or the change of seasons. Her compositions go beyond mere representation of nature; they embody the emotional resonance of these transitions. By apturing such ephemeral moments, the artist’s work speaks to a universal longing for connection and continuity in a constantly changing world.

Hoang’s paintings invite viewers to pause and reflect, transporting them into a contemplative realm where the boundaries between the real and the imagined blur. Each piece featured in the Between Days exhibition highlights the artist’s talent for conveying the transient yet profound moments of daily life through her distinct artistic vision.

About the artist

An Hoang, who resides in Hudson Valley (New York, USA), produces abstract paintings in which she skillfully balances the quietude of harmonious hues with sudden bursts of vibrancy. Serving as portals to the ephemeral interplay between natural and urban environments, her artworks reflect the mutable nature of memories: how they shift, fade, and reform in our minds. Embracing the intangible and inviting contemplation, Hoang’s work demonstrates the powerful ability of abstract art to evoke and inspire.
