Lawrie Shabibi Gallery is pleased to present a new group exhibition Form and Rhythm which is being held at Sotheby’s Dubai. This showcase is part of a two-year partnership and will run from 12 March to 7 May 2025. The exhibition focuses on contemporary Islamic art, featuring a diverse group of artists from different generations. Their work explores the intersection of geometric abstraction and traditional craftsmanship, offering a modern take on Islamic artistic heritage.

Participating artists include Hamra Abbas, Mehdi Moutashar, Farhad Ahrarnia, Timo Nasseri, Mohamed Melehi, Nabil Nahas, Shaikha Al Mazrou, Shahpour Pouyan, and Mohamed Ahmed Ibrahim. The exhibition highlights how these artists reinterpret traditional Islamic art through a contemporary lens, blending age-old techniques with modern sensibilities. It creates a dialogue between modernity and heritage, forming a unique symbiosis of past and present.

The exhibition will feature a wide range of mediums, including ceramics, cut stone and glass works, Mughal-inspired hard stone inlay, Persian micro-mosaic, paintings, and silkscreens. Each artist brings a unique perspective to the central themes, exploring form and rhythm, as well as the relationship between tradition and modernity.

About Lawrie Shabibi

Lawrie Shabibi is a contemporary art gallery located in Alserkal Avenue, Dubai. The gallery champions emerging and mid-career artists from around the world, with a particular emphasis on the Middle East and North Africa. Over the past five years, the gallery has focused on introducing artists from different regions and generations, with special attention to underrepresented voices. It also organizes historical exhibitions and collaborates with museums. Through a consistent programme of exhibitions, screenings, talks, publishing catalogues, and participating in international art fairs, Lawrie Shabibi is developing contemporary art in Dubai.
