Sharjah Art Foundation is organising two workshops for children and families. The events will take place on Saturday the 4th of June, 2022. They will start at 10:00 am and last until 12:00 pm. The workshops will be held at Collections Building, Arts Square. They are free of charge and open to the public. The languages spoken are English and Arabic. All materials needed will be provided by Sharjah Art Foundation.
One of the workshops for children and families is called Chalking Up Narratives. Recommended age range is from 11 to 15 years old. Inspired by Aref El Rayyes’ artworks, guests will make their own stories. The participants are going to sketch in the galleries, share narratives and make connections related to the material language experienced across painting, sculpture and installation in El Rayyes’ work.
An exhibition of late Lebanese artist Aref El Rayess is running until August 7, 2022, at Sharjah Art Museum in collaboration with the Sharjah Museums Authority, the Sharjah Art Foundation and Aref El Rayess Foundation. More than 200 of the artist’s works are on show. They include paintings, sculptures, drawings and photographs that reveal the rich and complex artistic practice of this essential Arab modernist. The pieces are exhibited in chronological order reflecting his career of over 50 years. A restless traveller, El Rayess’s oeuvre often reflects the places and times in which he lived and worked.
The other workshop for children and families is called Radio Stories. Recommended age range is from 6 to 10 years old. At first, guest will listen to various radio frequencies and stations. Then, the participants will create a story inspired by what they heard on the radio; the story can either be written, drawn, or a combination of both.
