SAF is organising two workshops for children and families, Creating Maps and Charcoal Still Life Drawings. The events will take place on Saturday the 18th of June, 2022. Both events will start at 10:00 am and last until 12:00 pm. The workshops will be held at Collections Building, Arts Square. They are free of charge and open to the public. The languages spoken are English and Arabic. All materials needed will be provided by Sharjah Art Foundation.
One of the workshops for children and families is Creating Maps. Recommended age range is from 6 to 10 years old. For this workshop, the visitors are divided into groups. They will be creating maps with the use of various mediums. A walk around the art spaces in order to observe landmarks is planned. Participants will collect different objects they find during this walk. Afterwards, the groups will have a task to make a visual map with the use of the objects they gather. Finally, the participants will share what they have created with each other and find out about the aim and importance of mapping.
The second workshop for children and families is Charcoal Still Life Drawings. Recommended age range is from 11 to 15 years old. Participants who sign up for this workshop will find out about drawing with charcoal. They will be explained how to create contrast between elements, find out about light and shadow, and how to fix the charcoal on their completed work.
Drawing with charcoal expands children’s knowledge of non-traditional techniques and materials generates interest in activated charcoal imaging, improves graphic drawing skills, develops hand-eye coordination, fine motor skills, imagination, creativity.
