The Ras Al Khaimah Fine Arts Festival (RAKFAF) is a celebration of contemporary art in the UAE and it takes place from February 4 to March 31. This year is the festival’s 10th anniversary.
The festival is a testament to Ras Al Khaimah’s core values. From its start, when the works of 30 artists were exhibited at the National Museum of Ras Al Khaimah, to its current expanded form at the historical Al Jazirah Al Hamra, this Arts Festival has been an integral part of the Emirate’s artistic landscape.
Over the years the Festival has played a leading role in efforts to educate and engage communities in the arts, support the creative economy, and inspire future generations.
To mark its first ten years, the programme unites more than 150 artists from 45 countries. Visitors will be able to see everything from fine art and photography to sculpture, film and poetry. This year’s theme is “The Journey” and artists have been asked to consider the theme through the lens of ancestry, migration, national identity and personal growth.
The Ras Al Khaimah Fine Arts Festival was established to bring the community together to celebrate art, create opportunities for cultural exchange, and support the creative and artistic sectors of its emirate.
His Highness Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, UAE Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, said, “I delight in the value that this wonderful event brings to our community. I believe that art is an essential component of individual and community wellbeing, so I take particular pride in seeing the Festival flourish year after year. I hope that people from all walks of life, near and far, enjoy the Festival and all that Ras Al Khaimah has to offer.”
