Sharjah Art Foundation (SAF) is organising a course for children which is dedicated to stop motion animation. Recommended ages range from 11 to 15 years old. The course will take place on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, from September 23 until September 25, 2022. The classes will start at 5:00 pm and end at 7:00 pm.

The course will be held at the Flying Saucer, Dasman. It is free of charge and open to the public. The languages spoken on the course are English and Arabic. All materials needed will be provided by Sharjah Art Foundation.

During this course, participants will learn about basic techniques used in stop motion animation. They will use their imagination to create and animate using clay, images and found objects to make their own stop motion animation.

Course starts with an introduction to silhouette animation and story writing. Through interactive exercises in the next one, participants also learn the techniques of generating story ideas and developing a story using the storyboard.

Then participants focus their attention on building characters and creating cutouts of both characters and sets relevant to the chosen story line. To enhance the distinctive style of black and white silhouette animation, participants learn how to prepare visually appealing titles for the start and end of the film.

Course is full of quick editing tips to transform the story idea into a magical silhouette animation.

Stop motion or stop frame animation is a process during which one takes a photograph of objects or characters, moves them slightly, and takes another photograph. Then the images are played back consecutively, and this way the objects or characters appear to move on their own.

Sharjah Art Foundation aims at making it possible for anyone with special needs to attend these events. Please, contact the Sharjah Art Foundation in advance to arrange any support needed during this session.
