The Korean Cultural Center in Abu Dhabi is currently holding The Sense of Living, a solo show by Korean artist Siwon Ghim that gives one an opportunity to explore her artistic journey. The exhibition is free to attend and will be on view until 18 August 2023.
The show presents Ghim’s 14 expressive abstract paintings which are carefully selected by the artist herself and which serve as examples of her “ever-changing internal state”. While some of the paintings are executed in somewhat muted colours, others are characterised by quite bright colour palettes. The main feature uniting all of Ghim’s paintings is bold brushwork. “In our [life] journey, [sometimes] we choose the wrong path,” Ghim says and explains that in her art, she documents her own experiences of overcoming such difficulties. The paintings displayed in the show are devoted to triumphing over hardships. Speaking about The Sense of Living, the artist expressed the hope that her vibrant energy is delivered to the Emirati audiences through this exhibition.
