Ishara Art Foundation opens with “Order of Magnitude” by Jitish Kallat, the artist’s first major solo exhibition in Dubai. Visitors can see the exhibition at Alserkal Avenue Unit A3 from February 16th to July 1st, 2022.

New works that include paintings, multimedia installations, drawings and site-specific interventions reflect the artist’s profound thoughts on the interrelationship between the cosmic and the terrestrial. Dynamic forms of image-making mix macro and micro processes, often beginning from sketches that capture temporal progression within the everyday.

Three double-sided and multi-scopic photo works hold court on the ground floor with a dynamic composition of sketches and blow-ups of details from the artist’s Mumbai studio. “This series began when I was severing time in isolation at my studio,” says Kallat of the frames that present figures that seem to appear and disappear as one moves around the work thanks to the lenticular surfaces that sandwich the compositions.

“Jitish Kallat: Order of Magnitude” is accompanied by physical and virtual tours, educational and public programmes, a newly commissioned text by Amal Khalaf and artist conversations over the duration of the exhibition.

Jitish Kallat is an Indian contemporary artist. He lives and works in Mumbai, India. Kallat’s work includes painting, photography, collages, sculpture, installations and multimedia works. He was the Artistic Director of the second edition of the Kochi-Muziris Biennale, held in Kochi in 2014. In his diverse art practice lies an engagement with the urban city, and the ideas of time and the astral.

Jitish Kallat, Order of Magnitude, runs at the Ishara Art Foundation in AlSerkal Avenue until 1st July 2022.
