1X1 Art Gallery is holding ECHOES, a debut solo exhibition in the Middle East by acclaimed Indian artist Rajnish Kaur. It displays 12 captivating canvases and 40 works on paper that marry abstract expressionism with sensory experiences, reflecting the vibrant energy of urban life and quieter, reflective moments. Through her evocative use of colour and form, the artist explores the emotional and energetic aspects of human experience. The show will welcome all visitors until 31 October 2024.
Kaur’s art moves beyond personal narratives, drawing spectators into a shared human journey through expressive landscapes and abstract forms. Her paintings, often inspired by memories of bustling marketplaces or fleeting feelings, resonate universally by engaging viewers through colour, texture, and form. Influenced by masters such as J. M. W. Turner, Claude Monet, and Edgar Degas, Kaur layers crosshatching and tonal harmonies to create rich, intricate atmospheres. Despite these references, her style remains distinctly her own, inviting audiences into a chaotic world where memory and recognition intermingle and the lines between time and place blur.

Kaur’s art defies simple categorisation, embracing spontaneity, abstraction, and a sense of timelessness. Her works connect to a tradition of artists who seek to express the poetic and transcendent. Each piece captures transient moments of collective human emotion, offering a sense of collective memory and introspection, drawing viewers into a deeper understanding of the world beyond the immediate.
